The Illinois AAU, or Central Association, was formed in 1890, and is currently the oldest AAU program in the United States as one of the original AAU organizations. The Central Association covers 100 counties in Illinois, with 6 counties in the St. Louis area belonging to the Ozark Association.
The AAU does not sponsor or run teams of it's own. It is a sanctioning and governing body for it's own Association Tournaments, and is designed to provide direction to National AAU events, as well as to promote particiapation and good sportsmanship in Girls Basketball.
